Enable Mechanic in your theme for tasks that use JavaScript

Mechanic now has a setting in your theme for tasks that run JavaScript in your online store, such as storefront banners and custom forms.

We're making this change because Shopify is retiring ScriptTags, the method Mechanic has used to load that JavaScript. Shopify will stop allowing new or updated ScriptTags on , and existing ones will stop loading on .

Mechanic now uses Shopify's supported theme integration instead. It runs the same task code, but needs you to enable it in your theme and save. Completing this setup keeps your tasks' online-store features working when Shopify switches off the old method.

If one of your enabled tasks needs it, you'll see on the Mechanic homepage and task page. Setup takes three steps:

You only need to do this once for your published theme. The same setting serves all your enabled JavaScript tasks. Your code stays in the task's field, and existing tasks don't need to be updated or reinstalled. You can leave Mechanic enabled in the theme when you disable a task; that task's JavaScript won't run.

Existing tasks using the previous loader continue working during the transition. After Mechanic confirms your saved theme setup, it handles removal of its old loader in the background.

Please complete setup by , ahead of Shopify's March 1 deadline. If you're installing a JavaScript task without an existing loader, complete theme setup before testing it. If you publish a different theme, make sure Mechanic is enabled there too.
